Chronicles of Real Estate Investors – Romance goes sour -Part 1

8:17pm — He begun to pack his bags. He was packing forcefully, shoving everything into his luggage box at the same damn time, you would think he was trying to rip his luggage apart.

I stared at him, totally lost. In all our 7 months of dating, I’d never seen Siji this mad, this upset, and I was trying to wrap my head around it.

We had decided to go on a mini vacation together. Work stress was killing me kai. O re body. I’d always wanted to go to Obudu cattle ranch. Yea yea, everyone’s gone there but me… Oh well…about damn time. Friday evening, he picked me up at work, we already had our bags packed, and all was set. Simi my colleague shouted out to me as I headed out of the office: “Have loads of fun and bring back babies”. She’s just crazy, that girl. We drove to the airport, packed and caught our flight. I was so excited I couldn’t wait to break the good news to him but I wanted to do it over dinner.

8:00PM. Dinner. Candlelight, a 3 course meal, a seafood platter, Siji really knew how to pull at my heartstrings. I smiled sheepishly because I couldn’t wait to see just how proud he would be of me.

“Guess what hun?” I blurted out right in the middle of conversation, giggling, all smiley like a girl in love for the first time.

SIJI: You know I’m horrible at guesses, urgggh…tell me…what…
Well, I just bought a piece of land!!! Can you believe it? Yea it cost me all my savings…but you know I guess, it’s an investment that will pay off…real estate is big these days and…
SIJI: Congratulations. (he interjected)
Siji’s face was as plain as a black board, expressionless. He looked down, continued to eat his dinner. Silence. My smile and happiness froze as I watched his cold expression.

You don’t approve? I asked quietly.
Silence.
Siji…
What???
Are you upset? Did I do something wrong?
……
