5 IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO WHEN MOVING INTO A NEW HOME

As you anxiously wait for your home to be delivered, there is a lot to consider when moving into a new home.

While we often consider moving steps like packing and unpacking to be the major things standing in the way of fully settling in, it is actually the things that you do after moving into a new home that make the biggest difference.

Getting associated with your house, learning how it functions and prioritizing what projects you want to tackle, is part and parcel of taking on your role as a homeowner. So, to help you set your to do list straight, we’ve put together this quick list of five (5) important things you need to do when moving into your new home.

Find below a list of some things you need to know to put together a plan. Soon, you’ll finally be ready to sit back, pop open the champagne, and enjoy your new house.

Do a Walkthrough

There’s no better time to do a complete walkthrough of your new house than when it is completely empty. That’s why Landwey provides an option for a walkthrough before handover. Among other things, you’ll want to double-check that:

All items have been fixed to standard and you are satisfied.

Any issue observed has been documented in the Client’s checklist.

Everything is in working order, including outlets, switches, and fixtures.

Child Proof (if Necessary)

If you’re moving into a new home with little kids then an immediate step is going to be doing some initial childproofing to keep everyone safe until you can put your full setup into place.

Figure Out What’s Going Where

You’ll save yourself a lot of time and trouble when moving into a new home if you make a plan for setting everything up instead of just winging it. This is particularly true for large and heavy items like furniture. While you probably already have a basic idea of what goes in what room, give yourself a moment to think about exactly how you’d like the set up to look. You can make changes later on of course, but going into this task with a general plan is always going to make the job easier.

Make Sure That Your Utilities Are Set-Up

Ensure that the Facility Management (Weyfacilities) company has been informed of your move-in date and are prepared to connect the utilities. On moving day, verify that your electricity and water has been connected to your home. Weyfacilities is also required to sign you up on the Facility Management App, a platform where various estate-related activities are initiated.

Change Your Address

Most people forget to do the official change of address for documentation purposes, most especially banks, utility service companies (DSTV, Internet), delivery/subscription-based companies e.t.c
